Post a Reply to a Message
This set of instructions describes how to post a reply to an existing message on a forum. If you want to enter a new message on a forum, please refer to the Post a New Message section.
Some forums may have the rule that the assigned Moderator must approve all messages before the message is made available for viewing. If this rule applies to the forum to which you are posting, your message will be saved and the Moderator will be notified that there is a message to be approved. Once the approval is given, the message will be made available on the forum.
To post a reply:
If the Forums page is displayed, skip to step #6.
If the Forum Messages List page is displayed, skip to step #8.
If the Forum Message page is displayed (the page displaying the specific message), skip to step #9.
Click the Feature List link at the top of the
current page.
The Main Information page will be displayed.
Click the Forum link in the Feature List Sidebar
menu.
The Forums page will be displayed. The page displays a list of current
forums on the left, the date and time that the forum was last updated, and a
list of available actions on the right.
If you want to work with forums for another
organization, choose the organization name from the View Forums for
drop-down list at the top of the page.
The page will be refreshed with the forums for the selected organization.
Click the View Forum link in the Action column
for the forum that you want to view.
The Forum Message List page will be displayed. If there are messages, they
will be listed in descending date order. The message title, date, time,
user, and organization are displayed for each message and replies.
The page will list message threads based on the preference set in the View
drop-down list. For example, if the option is set to Message Threads 30
days and newer, all threads within the last 30 days will be displayed. Each
thread can have multiple messages (original post and replies). You can
choose another option from the View drop-down list to change or refine the
messages list.
Click the Title of the message to which you want to
reply.
The Forum Message page will be displayed with the content of the selected
message.
Click the Post New Message link at the bottom of
the page.
The Post a Forum Message page will be displayed. The content of the message
to which you are replying will be displayed at the top of the page and the
entry form for the reply will be displayed at the bottom of the page.
If the message needs to be approved by a Moderator, there will be a message
displayed at the top of the entry form to inform you of the forum rule.
If you want to change the title of the message, enter
it in the Message Title text box at the top of the page.
This field defaults to the original message title. This field is free-form
and should contain an accurate description of the message content and
intent.
If you do not want to be notified when a reply
is posted for this message, click the check box under the Message Title
heading.
The default for this function is to automatically send an email notification
when a reply is posted for the message. Therefore, if you want to be
notified, leave the check box turned on.
A checkmark in the check box indicates that the email notification is turned
on. A blank check box indicates that the notification function is turned
off.
Enter the message content in the Message text box.
The text box displayed for this field will vary depending on the type and
version of Internet Browser you are using. If you are using a version of
Internet Explorer higher than 5.5, you will be able to use Rich Text
features for the description. Please refer to the
Rich Text Editing instructions for more information.
If you are not using Internet Explorer or a lower version, the Details field
will be a plain text box in which you can simply enter text.
When you are through entering the message content,
click the Add button at the bottom of the page.
The system will save the message and will return the Forum Messages List
page. If there is no Moderator approval required, the message will be
immediately made available on the forum.
If the forum requires that the Moderator approves all messages before being
posted, the Moderator will be notified that there is a message to be
approved. As soon as the Moderator approves the message, it will be
displayed on the Forum Messages List page.
If you are through with this forum, click the Done button to return to the Forums page or click the Features List link at the top of the page to return to the Main Information page.
Tip:
If you are not currently logged onto the site, this page will ask that you enter your name and email address in order to post a message.
The option to receive email notification when replies are posted to the message is not available unless you are currently signed on.
