Create Links to URLs

To Create a link to a URL:

  1. If the Site Brander main menu is not displayed, click the Features List link at the top of the current page and then click the Site Brander function in the Administer list.
The Site Brander main menu will be displayed.

  2. If you want to change the organization to be edited, choose the organization from the top drop-down list.
The page will be redisplayed with the respective Site Brander main menu for that organization.

  3. Click the Create & Edit Menu and Links in the Site Brander main menu.
The Manage Organization Links page will be displayed.  A structured list of the current menus and links is displayed in the Link List.

  4. Click the New button.
The Create and Modify Organizations Links page will be displayed.

  5. Enter the name of the link in the Link Title text box.
This should be the name as you want to see it in the menu.

  6. If this is a top level menu that you are creating, leave the Top Level Link selected in the Parent Link drop-down list.

  7. If this is a child link (subordinate item on a menu), select the link to which it should be subordinate from the Parent Link drop-down list.

  8. If you want this link hidden, click the Do not include this link in the menu checkbox.
A checkmark in the checkbox indicates that the link will be hidden.

  9. If you want the item to link to a URL in the same window, select the URL in same window item from the Type of Link drop-down list.
The page will refresh and will have the required fields for this type of link.

  10. If you want the item to link to a URL in a new window, select the URL in new window item from the Type of Link drop-down list.
The page will refresh and will have the required fields for this type of link.

  11. If the link is to a URL, enter it in the URL to link to text box (the last text box).
This must be a full URL (e.g., http://www.yahoo.com).  Skip to step #14.

  12. If you want to link to a Newsletter, Library Document, Photo Album, Event, or a Feature in the Features List for the organization, click the corresponding button at the bottom of the page.
The Link List page will be displayed.  The page will list all of the items available to link to, and will vary depending on the topic selected.

  13. Click the item on the Link List that you want to use for the new link.
The system will close the Link List page and will automatically populate the URL of Link Page text box with the URL address of the item selected.

  14. Click the Add/Update button at the bottom of the page.
The system will save the new link and will add it to the menu structure that you selected as the Parent structure.  If you selected Top Level, then the link item will be put alphabetically in order under the Organization Links.  The Manage Organization Links page will be displayed.

  15. If you are through managing the organization links, click the Done button on the Manage Organization Links page to return to the Site Brander main menu.

  16. Perform the Build Drop-down Menus function to compile your menus to reflect the changes.
The changes will not be reflected until this function is complete.
