Rich Text Editing


If you are using Internet Explorer 5.5 or above, you will be able to use Rich Text editing features for event descriptions, newsletters, and in forms.  If your IE is not at the correct level to use this function, you will be provided a normal text box in which to enter the information.

Rich text editing provides word processor type functions along with image upload, placement, and links.  The purpose of this function is to provide a simple and easy way to generate HTML for display in a browser.

You can move your mouse pointer over a tool on the Rich Text toolbar to see a description of that tool.

Uploading Images:

Once an image has been uploaded, you can reuse it anywhere rich text editing is available.

  1. Click the Upload Images button in the Rich Text toolbar.
    The Upload Image window will be displayed.
  2. If you know the file name and path, enter it in the Image text box and skip to step #5.
  3. If you do not have the full path of the image file, click the Browse button to browse for the file.
    The Choose File dialog box will be displayed.
  4. Navigate to the folder in which the file is stored, select it and click the Open button on the Choose File dialog box to select the file.
  5. Click the Upload button at the bottom of the Upload Image window.
    The file uploaded to the Doubleknot site and a success message will be displayed.
  6. Click the Continue button to close the window and continue the event set up.
    Now that the image has been uploaded, you can insert it into the text. 

 

Inserting Images:

It is assumed that the image you want to insert has been uploaded to the server and that you currently have a page displayed with the Rich Text Editing format.

  1. Click inside the text - at the point where you want the image to be inserted.
    A blinking cursor should be displayed where you want the image inserted.
  2. Click the Insert Local Image button on the Rich Text toolbar.
    The Select Local Image window will be displayed.  All images that are available will be displayed in the window.
  3. Click on an image to select it and have it copied to the text.
  4. If you need to resize the image or move it, use the handles to resize it and click inside the image to move it.

 

Linking to an External Image:

You can link to an image without uploading it as long as you have the full URL address for it.

  1. Click inside the text - at the point where you want the image to be inserted.
    A blinking cursor should be displayed where you want the image inserted.
  2. Click the Insert Link to External Image button on the Rich Text toolbar.
    An Explorer dialog box will be displayed with a text box available for entering the URL address of the image. 
  3. Enter the URL in the text box provided.
    It must be a valid URL.
  4. Click the OK button on the Explorer dialog box.
    The system will retrieve the image and insert it into the text.

 

Create Hyperlink in the Text:

You can select text or an image and then create a hyperlink to an external document or image with this feature.

  1. Select the text or the image that you want to link in the Rich Text box.
    You must select either an image or text before proceeding.
  2. Click the Hyperlink button in the Rich Text toolbar.
    The Hyperlink dialog box will be displayed.
  3. Select the type of document/reference to which you want to link.
    The default is http: type.
  4. Enter the URL address in the URL text box.
  5. Click the OK button on the Hyperlink dialog box.
    The system will close the Hyperlink dialog box and will link the selected text/image to the URL.

 

Editing the HTML Text:

There may be times when you need to edit the HTML source code.  Simply click the Edit HTML checkbox at the bottom of the Rich Text area to view and edit the HTML source.

 

Deleting Uploaded Images:

If images that you have uploaded are no longer needed, it is suggested that you delete them.

  1. Click the Delete Image button on the Rich Text toolbar.
    The Delete Uploaded Image window will be displayed.  The window will contain all images that have been uploaded by you. Each image has a Delete button available to remove it.
  2. Click the Delete button for the image that you want to remove.
    The system displays a message box to verify that you want to completely remove the image.
  3. Click the OK button on the verification message box.
    The system will remove the image from the server and will display a File Delete confirmation window.
  4. Click the Done button to complete the process and return to the Create Event page.

 

Inserting Attributes:

  1. Position the cursor in the text where you want to insert the recipient information.
  2. Click the Insert Attribute button on the Rich Text toolbar.
    The Insert Recipient Attribute dialog box will be displayed.
  3. Choose the attribute that you want to insert from the Recipient Attribute drop-down list.
    If the attribute that you want is not listed, you can enter the attribute name in the text box to the right.
  4. Click the OK button.
    The dialog box will close and the attribute (and the related coding) will be inserted into the text.

 

Show Links:

  1. Position the cursor in the text where you want the link to appear.
  2. Choose the site from which you will be selecting the linked item from the Show Links drop-down list.
    The resulting dialog box may take a moment to appear.  Please wait for the dialog box and do not click the site name again.
    The dialog box displays six drop-down lists so that you can select the item to which you want to link for the selected site.
  3. Choose the item for the link from the appropriate drop-down list.
    For example, if you want to insert a link to a Newsletter, choose the Newsletter title from the Select a Newsletter drop-down list.
    The system will automatically configure the URL and will insert the link text into the message.

 

Remove MS Office Tags:

When email messages are sent in HTML format with MS application data, additional tags are added so that you can continue to use the full functionality of the MS application to edit your content.

To reduce the size and complexity of the information in HTML format, you can use this feature to filter out the tags.

  1. Click the Remove MS Office Tags button on the Rich Text toolbar.
    The system will display a warning message to verify that you want to continue.
  2. Click the OK button to continue the process.
    If there are empty paragraphs in the copied text, the system will ask if you want to remove them.
  3. If you want the empty paragraphs removed, click the OK button. 
    If you do not want to remove the empty paragraphs, click the Cancel button.
    The system will remove the tags and will display a completion message when through.
  4. Click the OK button to close the message box and return to the Rich Text box.
